A lot of effort has been made to infuse some dark humor into They Will Kill You. Honestly, it works in patches. You will love Asia Reaves as Beetz - a woman who can do only wrong, including being in the wrong places, being penalized by the law, and learning a whole lot of violence wizardry during her time in prison. The movie takes no time to set up a storyline.
You pretty much land in the limited substance that the movie has, providing a glimpse of Asia Reaves and her sister and their struggle to survive, thanks to an abusive father or guardian who was definitely better off being dead.If you can recall movies that have people using humans as game for their hunting pleasures, They Will Kill You will seem rather similar. If you recall movies that highlight the super-rich revering cults to extend their regime, They Will Kill You will seem way too similar. However, if you try recalling women in lead roles for increasing the body count, They Will Kill You just might stand out with Asia Reaves' crazy hairdo headlining the massacre. Asia excels in her role. She does not look overly muscular or unnaturally crazy. She seems intent on doing what she does best - exact revenge and do a whole lot of killing as a part of it.
I genuinely felt that Heather Graham was wasted here. She cannot be just one of the many rich kids who are mandated to offer human sacrifices in a crowd of overprivileged folks - they should have given her more screen time. The best thing about They Will Kill You is chaotic handling. It unfurls into the fifth gear just about 10 minutes into the movie. The moment Asia lands at the mansion, you get that feeling - this place is about to turn red, and someone [Asia] will be seen raising a machete to chop up a whole lot of us...
