Just when you are expecting that IKKA will be bland and uninspiring in every way possible, this movie surprises you with its subtlety and measured pace. It seems to have aboard Bollywood's most seasoned performers is a great ploy as long as they are handled well and the story is told just right - this is exactly what IKKA does! This is not a murder mystery that will make you share it on Instagram as a must-watch movie, but believe me, IKKA is a very watchable movie, and you will feel that the 2 hours invested in it were well spent. How does IKKA surprise? By choosing to be non-dramatic. There is no urgency to reveal the characters or a rushed sense of proceedings at the court. From Sunny Deol to Akshaye Khanna and Dia Mirza, every character comes through as realistic, very well rooted in their characters. The absurdity of old money preceding the law is indicated; the angst of having lost your girlfriend or fiancée is not highlighted, and the intent to kill is not described. The makers of IKKA leave all of these emotions and reasoning for the audience. The two best things the director does are not deciphering the inner turmoil while taking up a case where his gut feeling knows who the real culprit is and not explaining the medical condition of his child that coerces him to do so. Like I said, there is no masala or character-building exercise. When watching IKKA on Netflix India, you just know the how and what about every character so that you don't deviate from the spine of the story - does Sunny Paaji already know about what happened between the murdered girl and Akshaye Khanna?

The story is intriguing, and the many twists that David Burroughs goes through to find his son keep you hooked to catch the next episode. But is this mini-series as awesome as some Instagram reviewers are making you believe? The answer is midway, and you need to be clear in asking some questions:

The Boroughs is your perfect OTT watch if you don't want to keep on following the storylines season after season, and if prequels and sequels irritate you. I personally believe that the standards are defined to an inimitable standard by the original, and this certainly holds true for The Boroughs - this show on Netflix India has been trending passively. It is very watchable. It is something you could devour over the weekend. The cast is led by the never-appreciated Alfred Molina, who, I believe, is one of Hollywood's biggest casualties in terms of real performers not being given a chance. He certainly took all the time in the world to arrive on the OTT platform. He has arrived well - The Boroughs is like a lightweight frappé with bits & pieces of some jump-scares and a bit of monstrosity here and there. Overall, the storyline is tight, though not as fresh or unique as some social media content creators might want you to believe. The Boroughs have no lame moments. It does not try to explain the reasons why some people are so sold on the idea of immorality.

2 Recreated Songs Reinforce the Mediocrity that Plagues Bollywood

I just watched the less-than-a-minute teaser songs for the next installment of the Welcome franchise and Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, and I must say that the content streamed during this attention-deprived watch time was as average as it gets. Come to think of it, Chunnari-Chunnari remains a bit of a contemporary classic. The song was rendered by Alisha Chinai, and it was very different from what we were used to hearing in those days. Add Salman's dance moves to it, and Chunnari-Chunnari became a cult classic without being crowned one. Now, we have our guy, Varun Dhawan, swooning to it, trying to create the same magic, but honestly, he falls flat on his face. When Varun Dhawan arrived, gossip had built into a crescendo - this guy is the new-age Govinda, the next mass entertainer who has been literally groomed at home by the sultan of mass appeal masala movies, David Dhawan. Honestly, I too believed the same. When Varun Dhawan emerged on the scene, stepping away from his Student of the Year space, he created a strong case for himself. He was supposed to be the younger, more agile, and slightly more upmarket version of Govinda. And then, you watch the teaser of Chunnari Chunnari from Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and derive the conclusion is not difficult at all - it has been more than a decade since Varun was splashed across song-and-dance focused scripts and still, he is no match for Chi-Chi.

Psycho Killer does really well in the first 15 to 20 minutes of the movie, with the opening scene scripted to perfection. A state trooper couple could not possibly expect that a routine license & registration check would give way to homicide, and that too, linked with a serial killer. Psycho Killer does a great job of not wasting any time in trying to create a storyline. There is no build-up. From the first minute of the movie, it is clear that Psycho Killer will get nasty with more murders without the need to explain why the masked murderer won't spare anyone. What follows after the homicide upfront is Jane Archer trying to hunt down her husband's killer. She fits into the role rather well, looking vulnerable and determined. Talking about the performances, James Rogers, who plays the masked murderer, fits right into the character. However, the director seems intent on not allowing the viewers to see James' face, which really does not make a lot of sense - this guy is a mass murderer, he is on a killing spree, he wears goggles & kills with a mask on, and he is not trying to hide too much - then why keep his face cloudy and hard to see? 

Significant Other Movie Review | Jio Hotstar OTT Movie Reviews [Sci-Fi, Psychological]

Try to Google 'Significant Other movie reviews,' and you will come across snippets of text headlining it as a sci-fi movie. Yes, there is a bit of alienism in the movie, and the story does pivot toward the presence of other beings from another galaxy. Still, largely, Significant Other remains a psychological movie that uses a storyline that is more focused on relationships. Another thing that might catch your attention is the dearth of performers. There is literally the protagonist couple, a 5-minute couple, and nobody else!

The first 20 minutes of the Significant Other movie can be slow. You might wonder where the story is going. Nothing really happens apart from a couple misfiring as they try to communicate. It is after this lazy storytelling upfront that the movie picks up some real momentum. You have to be patient. You have to catch the small clues, especially the change in the facial expressions of the couple, to spot exactly when the story shifts in a different dimension altogether. While the first few minutes might make you wonder about a couple aimlessly drifting around in a spookingly empty forest, the last few minutes of Significant Other quietly explain why - something so remote and isolated was critical for the aliens to give shape to their sinister plans. 

SEND HELP 2026 JIO HOTSTAR MOVIE REVIEW | INDIAN OTT MOVIE REVIEWS

SEND HELP unbalances itself, trying too hard to storyboard what is cooking beneath, and by the time the last 30 minutes open up, you might have lost interest, checked your WhatsApp messages about 47 times, or secretly answered your shady Instagram admirer. This is the only thing that is holistically wrong with SEND HELP - the movie I managed to grab on Jio Hotstar. The thing about SEND HELP is that it starts with a lot of promise. The movie does not really surprise you at any point if you have watched the type of content streaming on Netflix India ever since the Pandemic tore apart the world's balance. There is nothing you will recall about SEND HELP a week after having watched it, but during this time, if someone asks you to recommend it or to banish it, you will say that the director missed plenty of opportunities in making SEND HELP a more watchable movie. I believe the entire build-up to watching it was spoiled by content labeling experts.

On some of the best movie detailing platforms, it has been tagged as a Psychological Horror movie, which it surely isn't. In fact, there is nothing too psychological about it. Linda Liddle does not suffer from extreme personality disorientation. She is not 'split,' and neither is she born with the will to kill or hunt down living beings. She just gives in to her dark side when she is marooned on an island with her arrogant boss. I still believe this is director Sam Raimi's most mediocre outing, considering it is 2026, and he must be a seasoned Hollywood director by now. People isolated in Robinson Crusoe-type situations make chopsticks and weave plates out of vegetation? And to make this worse, you had Rachel McAdams be that person - has the director even seen Rachel's body of work, and on that account, her body? To make it highly difficult to believe in the first 10 minutes, she is presented as a passive, submissive, but brilliant worker on the office floor.

I guess horror movies do better, engage attention more convincingly, and benefit from a well-knit storyline when there is a bit of desperation upfront - your protagonist should not be a corporate leader, a global music star struggling with an affair, or an NBA star being visited by his dead parents. Ideally, the main character should be vulnerable, struggling, overwhelmed, and someone you would normally not bet your money on. No One Gets Out Alive does the characterization to perfection using this approach. Our lady is an immigrant, perpetually out of money, trying to hold on to some type of optimism, and her character reeks of mental health constantly challenged by self-doubt. Taking plenty of clues from how immigration, the more unmanaged type, happens across the US, No One Gets Out Alive presents Ambar as someone seemingly destined to struggle for the rest of her life. To make matters worse, she takes up refuge in a boarding house, which is where nearly 80% of the movie seems to have been shot. The boarding house is the perfect backdrop to this psychological horror movie, with its creaky floors, big rooms with dark corners, ducts that let in the whispers, and staircases that always look daunting. No One Gets Out Alive does not overdo the characterization. You watch Ambar for a couple of minutes, and you get it, even if you have not tasted the illegal immigrant life, even if your college fees were paid years in advance, and perhaps, you have never reconsidered going to a physician's office because of out-of-pocket expenses that an out-of-work mom might not be able to bear.

Reviewed: Bring Her Back | Netflix India Movie | Thriller-Dark Genre Movie

Streaming on Netflix-India, Bring Her Back does not do anything remarkably different or special. It tries the tried & tested route of opening up the plot slowly, revealing the real face of the sinister but emotionally-challenged caregiver who just cannot get over the death of her daughter. You really cannot compliment the Director for putting in jump scares or some shocking twists in Bring Her Back - streaming now on Netflix. At best, Bring Her Back is good for someone who has not seen a lot of horror flicks recently. In the last 5 years, there has been a surge in the number of horror genre movies that try to pique your curiosity with complicated storylines. If you have watched a handful, you have probably seen them all. You will certainly not find Bring Her Back a great watch. However, the occasional horror genre, someone getting started in this niche just might find Bring Her Back interesting. The blind Asian girl in the movie is not that convincing.

The original post went up in January 2020: This was when browsing for a new series to follow after having just wrapped up Good Girls on Netflix that I realized that we are perhaps sitting on one of the biggest movie story inspiring moments - this is not just speculation, but a surety about the things about to come. I feel assured that TV series, web series, documentary series, and many conspiracy theory movie plots will use this pandemic as the main storyline. The ingredients are just about perfect for plot-creators. Just imagine using a Chinese angle in which it is found that the Coronavirus is the result of a man-made engineering effort aimed at displacing the US from its super-power status. Other options include the Coronavirus taking a more serious form and becoming largely airborne. Now, the movie could be about how a family navigates cities razed to the ground by the virus, en route to some form of magical cure that cannot be found anywhere else.

Reviewing APEX on Netflix 2026 India | Action, Thriller, Adventure Genre Movie Review

Yes, the opening scenes remind you of Cliffhanger. However, as you move ahead, APEX transforms into something entirely different. For one, it is Charlize Theron and not Stallone - while I realize this is a poor attempt at being humorous, you get the feeling that just like Stallone, Charlize Theron trained really hard for the role. You can easily spot the mean muscle mass that must have been earned over a few months. One look at her and you know that she did the groundwork and perhaps, much more than that, to look part of the role. The script just demands it! APEX is not the usual adventure story themed around urban folks who take up something in the mountains they cannot handle. The entire layout for APEX is highly focused on survival. The landscapes keep changing, but the intensity of Theron and the taut storytelling is unforgiving. Just like the opening sequence in Cliffhanger that renders Stallone guilty, Sasha [Charlize Theron] is overwhelmed by the sadness of letting go of her partner off a massive, steep, and snowy peak. She just looks like a mountaineer with all the gear attached to her. Just like Stallone, Sasha does not speak much. She clearly did not like human company much before the ill-fated climb, and with her grief, she becomes even more solo, taking off to trails that are not meant even for the seasoned adventurers.

Reviewed: Do Deewane Seher Mein | Bollywood Romantic Flick | Netflix OTT India

IMDb tends to be a bit generous, and its close-to-7 rating for Do Deewane Seher Mein somewhat underlines this trend. Please don't assume that I am trying to trash the movie just for the sake of doing it online and gathering some clicks and recommendations. The movie is actually good! That said, it is a bit too long, it tends to meander a bit too much, and in parts, it undid the great impression it created upfront. Both the stars, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur, prove that the younger lot in Bollywood can act, though we cannot say the same for some folks belonging to the Pandey lineage. Siddhant's passive flirting in the movie was smooth like butter and very realistic - guys who struggle with making a move without coming on too strong can take a few cues from him. However, Do Deewane Seher Mein could have done a lot better by not trying to explain what it presents as the reasons for childhood trauma. Just imagine this - you start a movie, you start liking it, the first 30 minutes are so good, and then, as you get curious about what is going to happen now, it starts slowing down. The storyline meekly starts revisiting what is troubling our protagonists repeatedly, like a precise clockwork set for every 15 minutes. The direction starts ruining the fun around the 1-hour mark. It is then that you realize a couple of things.

Reviewing The Devil's Lair | Horror Genre Netflix | Dailymotion Free Movie Pemukiman Setan

As usual, the main reason I watched The Devil's Lair was the many Instagram posts that kept calling it a must-watch. To be honest, The Devil's Lair was slightly disappointing. The social media posts kept highlighting a scene where a witch's head rolls off, and the decapitation looks good from a horror movie perspective. The reality is somewhat different. This is one of the opening scenes. The opening sequences of The Devil's Lair make you believe that the content is going to be high on hair-raising scenes, but largely, the movie does not scare you. The body horror theme is sustained in parts. Scenes with no background music and some eerie, slow-moving effects get to you, but the entire "Revenge of the Witch" storyline becomes too predictable. There are two ways of looking at it - if you are just getting started in the horror niche, The Devil's Lair might just work.

The Green Room often surfaces as a dark-themed horror movie across YouTube content creators, but please don't be misled - Green Room is not a horror movie by any standards, but it is indeed a thriller. It is a rather good pick if you want your movie content to be slightly raw without too many lead characters and an all-too-familiar storyline. The Green Room movie on YouTube is easy to find. A couple of searches and you will find the full movie on YouTube. Watch it without any preconceived notions about the starcast or raving reviews about action sequences. The movie has a bunch of wannabe punk rock performers who are always on the hunt for a gig that pays something.

Sadly, they run into a venue where the performance area is just a cover-up for something more sinister in the basement. Very quickly, a murder happens without the directors trying to explain how it happened. Members of the punk rock group in The Green Room get caught up in the commotion that follows since the venue is controlled by a small organized crime syndicate.

The supposedly horror-obsessed content reviewers on YouTube and Instagram keep referring to The Ugly Stepsister as a horror movie you should not miss. Since my paid subscription for Mubi was not active for some time, I had to wait to catch this one. Finally, managed to watch The Ugly Stepsister online, and trust me, it is not even half as good as the social media buzz around it. For starters, the build-up is slow, especially when you start the movie with a "...this is going to be a good horror movie" mindset. There is nothing scary out here, at least for the first 1 hour. The story is nothing special, and towards the latter half, it starts integrating some aspects of the Cinderella story we all know. Yes, there is a bit of psychological darkness about the entire setup. The ugly one here has a serious body dysmorphia of the most extreme type and self-harm, along with gore and some blood-soaked moments, to complete her portrayal. The background music is intentionally switched off during the darker conversations about hatred, betrayal, and pure greed. The Ugly Stepsister does not try to scare you at any point. Why the social media movie buffs repeatedly called it one of the best horror flicks of 2025 will remain beyond me. For those waiting to watch the movie, put it on with the thought of watching a well-made European movie that has plenty of dark undertones and some really graphic scenes. Yes, the tapeworm scene from The Ugly Stepsister will get to you. Yes, the worm egg vomit in The Ugly Stepsister will make you cringe a bit. The self-removal of all five toes to fit into the shoe will make you think that more horrifying scenes are about to emerge in the last 30 minutes of The Ugly Stepsister 2025 movie, but you will feel disappointed. Like I said, The Ugly Stepsister does all things reasonably well, but it is not a cult classic or even a contemporary movie recommendation that should grab eyeballs. If you happen to miss it, you would not have missed something monumental. If you happen to watch The Ugly Stepsister this weekend, expect a slight dose of body horror and a weak storyline that confuses itself. The Ugly Stepsister is not a typical Watchlist movie. You should consider spending subscription money to buy into an OTT or rental platform to specifically watch this movie. Let it come to you. It would be better to wait for any of your usual subscriptions to stream this content. When watching the horror movie experts on YouTube or Instagram, don't wait and pause on social posts that portray The Ugly Stepsister as one of the finest in European horror movie-making history - there is nothing so special about it! However, if you like a slight touch of gothic and some body churning and mutilations as a part of movie content, The Ugly Stepsister can be a decent watch. Don't book a weekend around it. No need to score it out of 10 as a "horror flick". The only silver lining would be the indirect preaching about accepting your looks and not leaning entirely on physical beauty.

The Farm is not your regular slasher movie. In fact, it is unlike any of the slasher-slaughter movies you might have seen. So, you might wonder, what makes it worth the recommendation? Honestly, nothing as such! Easy to access on YouTube, this horror genre movie is instantly accessible via such links, but please don't watch it for the body horror special effects. Overall, the level of gore is more suggestive than something that will make your stomach churn. This is not Hostel or The Human Centipede, but a very restrained form of body horror storytelling. At no point does The Farm grab attention with body-slashing special effects. It is the theme of the movie that gets to you. Just consider human beings raised on a farm, against their will, and treated as animals. The vegetarians might instantly call out that such content needs to be shown to sensitize people about the horrors of animal husbandry, but I guess anybody can watch the movie without being asked about their dietary preferences. The movie borrows many horror-genre ideas, including human subjugation, captive horror, lactating crimes, and human meat as a product. It blends all of these into one quick storytelling format. I believe it's quick because there is no real build-up to the story. There is no emphasis on explaining the reasons people do something so hideous. The Farm YouTube movie is without regrets or explanation. The first aspect of this movie that will make you not explore another title is the music. It gets to you from the first scene itself. The background score is creepy and twisted, and it evolves and adapts as the story gathers some momentum.
